Training Department

SFH is an accredited training service provider with the Health and Welfare SETA (HWSETA) and the Education, Training and Development Practice SETA (ETDPSETA). Through this accreditation our training department offers high level theoretical and practical training programmes. Emphasis is placed on delivery and methodology to enhance skills.

The aim of the training and quality assurance programme is to build capacity of those trained to be able to offer high quality services. Our expertise is based on more than 10 years of training, mentoring and supporting the New Start programmes.

SFH offers training in the following areas:

  • HIV Counselling and Testing skills programme (36 Credits)
    • CD4 count testing and TB sputum collection training
  • Mobilizer training (10 Credits)

In addition we offer Counsellor DBS Competency Testing through the National Institute for Communicable Disease (NICD).

Once initial training has been done, we offer continuous on-site mentoring, supervision and support.

SFH has implemented a Good to Great (GTG) Initiative, which aims to improve the overall quality of the services provided by the counsellors. The GTG initiative uses a series of practical, formative and summative assessments to evaluate counsellors in the following areas: basic HIV information, counselling and testing principles, skills and protocols.

SFH offers HIV and CD4 Proficiency Testing (PT) through the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS), and HIV PT Extended Individualized Assessments. We have dedicated personnel who work from the NHLS and provide Lab Quality controlsfor:

  • HIV Rapid Test Kits
  • CD4 Count Testing Machines (PIMA)

Our training and quality assurance programmes are not limited to SFH alone, but are also extended to our partners.

We are in a position to offer similar training to other organisations in the HIV prevention field for a reasonable fee. Please contact us for more details.
